Buying a home? It’s all about space – inside and out

Demand for properties with large areas of outdoor and indoor space has increased as a result of the way many people’s lives have changed over the past year.

Outdoor has space been a particular requirement for many, partly due to the lockdown and the need for social distancing.

Even with Covid-19 restrictions easing over the coming weeks, the way people look at their future homes will no doubt change.

·       Large gardens to spend time in with family and friends

·       Access to the countryside and recreational areas

·       Plenty of indoor space to split working and living

While more rural properties have been in significant demand, homes in towns and villages throughout Powys, Ceredigion, Gwynedd, and Shropshire are also wanted by those either wanting to move to larger properties and others who want to get closer to services such as shops, GPs and community services.

Properties in need of some refurbishment - an opportunity to 'make your house a home'

In some cases, older properties in need of some refurbishment provide a good opportunity to ‘make your own home.’

A four-bedroom property at Forden, near Welshpool, Powys, is a good example. With a guide price of £425,000 the detached property is set in two acres of gardens and grounds with a paddock.

With plenty of outdoor space, it could provide an opportunity for someone looking to use it for grazing or equestrian use, possibly as a hobby.

Indoors is perhaps where the main opportunity lies.

With a versatile layout, it has a large and welcoming hallway with a dual aspect lounge looking over the surrounding land and countryside.

It includes a spacious kitchen and breakfast room, looking across the gardens, a dining room, and a modern shower room.

A home office or additional bedroom - or both

However, there is also a room that could be a fifth bedroom or a study that makes it interesting. With many people working from home, either full or part-time, having this additional space as a work area ensures it's separate from the main living areas.

Alternatively, it could be used as a fifth bedroom or even as a split office/bedroom for when guests visit.

On the first floor, there are four bedrooms and a bathroom.

It’s the perfect type of property for a family looking to have large amounts of living and outdoor space, access to the great outdoors, as well as to village amenities, such as the primary school and local pub.

In addition, the larger town of Welshpool is just minutes away by car, along with good train communications to the coast, Midlands and further afield.
