Newtown, the second town on the River Severn and largest in Powys and located 8 miles from the Welsh English border. Formerly an international hub for the flannel industry and the birth of the mail order retail business by Pryce Jones, with the Royal Welsh Warehouse still dominating the townscape. The market town provides an ideal base to explore the surrounding countryside, with a range of walks and nature trails taking advantage of canal paths and former historical sites including Dolforwyn and Montgomery castles. The town benefits from a wide range of amenities and facilities including public transport connections, with direct train links from Birmingham through to the Cambrian coast. The two comprises of several primary schools, secondary school, and further education facilities. Newtown is now home to local galleries, museums, and theatre, as well as several local sport facilities, shops and services.
