THE TOWN MILL
The old Town Mill, Llanidloes, is the first mill on the River Severn and can date its existence back more than 800 years. For a great part of that time it was the property of the Berthlwyd Family who dominated the affairs of the area and was originally constructed to grind corn. Its famous 12ft diameter water wheel was powered by a mill race that was fed from a weir that held back the waters of Britain's longest river and the 'race' outlet can still be seen exiting through the 'otters cave' tucked by 'Short Bridge'.

In 1834 the Bridgend Flannel Mill was built on the site. When this closed in 1937, it had the dinstinction of being the last flannel mill still in production in the district. Thereafter its huge interior was used as a gymnasium and boys club.

Now fully and sensitively restored in 2002, this fine stone building with a grey slated roof has been converted into a range of luxury apartments with a high standard of fittings and finishes. Its town centre location, with easy access to shops and local amenities, as well as its position within the heart of a major tourist area makes the Town Mill ideal as home, or as an investment.

Apartments range from floor areas of 480 sq ft to 1050 sq ft and have spacious open plan sitting and dining areas. All apartments overlook the River Severn and some have French doors that lead out to balconies. Accommodation provides from one to three bedrooms with luxuriously tiled bathrooms, fitted with Twyford's sanitary-ware. The high quality kitchens boast a range of appliances including cookers, hobs, extractor units and refrigerators together with provision for dishwashers, washing machines and deep-freezers. (The three bedroomed apartments are built as duplex constructions on the top two floors and also have separate utility rooms and cloakrooms).

Full gas central heating and double glazed windows in every apartment provide for the highest levels of comfort and the video entry system to the front doors enables residents to identify callers before admitting them. Internal fittings allow for an abundance of electrical sockets, telephone points and terrestrial/satellite television connections. Outside, the cobbled courtyard is well lit by elegant lighting standards.

On the following pages you can see floor plans of all the apartments and a diagram that shows the location of each apartment within the building.

LLANIDLOES TOWN
Built at the confluence of the rivers Severn and Clywedog, Llanidloes is the first town on Britain's longest waterway and its history demonstrates a rich and varied contribution to the nation's development. Its origins go back well before the Conquest, when in the 7th century St Idloes founded a church on the plateau that has since become the town centre.

Famous during the era of wool production and the flannel trade but with the Norman motte and bailey long disappeared the town still retains much of its medieval character with its wide streets set in the form of a cross and an ancient timbered market hall at its heart.

The ancient Borough received a charter in 1280, allowing it to hold fairs and a weekly market and in 1344 the Lord of Powys granted the town borough status. Today, it remains a vibrant market town servicing the surrounding agricultural community and tourist industry and has a full range of cultural, sporting and leisure pursuits represented by a wealth of clubs and societies. Its educational establishments place it in the top of the government's league tables and it is hardly surprising that it is frequently referred to as the 'friendliest of towns'.
