Family’s 60 year love affair with rural home to end with its sale

A family’s near 60 year love affair with a property on a hillside close to the famous Leighton Estate, near Welshpool, Powys, is about to end with the sale of the property.

Pentre Bank House has been in the same family’s ownership since 1961 when estate agents and chartered surveyors Morris, Marshall and Poole originally sold it to Mr and Mrs Ron and Jean Bailey.

But after many happy times and memories at the house they used as a holiday home, complete with 1.72 acres of land, they have decided to sell-up.

“The family purchased the property as a holiday home in the early 1960s and over time they have extended and modernised it. But with the family growing older they have decided to sell the property and it could make a lovely home for someone,” said Robert Hudson, a partner at Morris, Marshall and Poole with Norman Lloyd, estate agents and chartered surveyors who are selling the property.

It’s a full circle for us as MMP dealt with the original sale in the 1960s.

“The property is bordered by woodland and has the potential for far reaching views across the Severn Valley. It is also close to the famous Leighton Estate and its woodland and is nestled in a very private spot, complete around 1.7 acres of land.”

The property, which is on the market for £250,000, is constructed of stone, part rendered under a slate roof and includes three bedrooms, a sun room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom, along with a wood stove.

“It could do some modern upgrading, especially if it was to become a permanent residence. But it’s location and the good condition that the current owners have kept it in make it a good investment,” added Mr Hudson.

Mr Bailey said they were sad to be selling the property. “We’ve had many happy times at Pentre Bank House. It’s played a big part in our family life. But time has moved on and we feel it’s time for someone else to enjoy the house.”

The property has mains water and electricity and has private drainage.
